History
Thonotosassa - pronounced thuh-now-tuh-sa-suh - was settled in the mid-1800s. Its name comes from the Seminole-Creek words “ronoto” for “flint” and “sasv” for “some.” This name comes from its richness in flint - a type of quartz used to make tools and start fires.
In 1824, Fort Brooke was established in Tampa. A road was built to connect Fort Brooke with Fort King in Ocala, which came to be known as Fort King Road. It ran just north and west of Lake Thonotosassa. Because a Seminole village was in the region, many settlers avoided the area until after the Second Seminole War, which ended in 1842.
Thonotosassa grew due to the development of the Tampa and Thonotosassa Railroad. While the tracks for this railroad no longer extend to Thonotosassa, the railroad helped the town to develop.

How Our Thonotosassa, FL Realtors Can Help
House hunting can be a lot of fun, but it can also be stressful. Buying a house is one of the biggest financial investments that we will make in our lives. So, while looking for a house can be exciting, it is often overwhelming.
This is where our Thonotosassa Realtors can help. We have the experience and real estate savvy to guide you through the process. We can help you determine a budget, consult with you on “needs vs. wants,” put together a list of homes that meet your criteria, and help you negotiate a great price. We’ll be with you through each step of the process, answering questions, advocating for you, and helping you get the best possible home for your family.
Our Thonotosassa real estate agents use a three-step process to help our clients buy a home. Here is how it works:
- Pre-approval: We firmly believe that starting with a budget is the best way to make sure that you don’t end up being “house poor.” We encourage our clients to get pre-approved for a mortgage so they understand what they can afford when buying a house. With a pre-approval, you will know exactly what your mortgage will be based on the sale price of a house, which can help you make a smarter financial decision. You can also use our mortgage calculator to estimate your monthly mortgage payment.
- Search: The next step is to figure out what you need in a house - and what might be nice to have but isn’t a dealbreaker. We will talk to you about everything from yard size to school districts to the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Once you have a list, we will use your criteria and your budget to find homes that meet your needs. We may even be able to suggest homes in nearby communities that might work for you as well (if you’re open to other towns).
- Close: After you find a home you love, we will help you negotiate a great deal. When your offer is accepted, we will walk you through the other steps of the process. This typically includes getting an inspection done and finalizing your mortgage details. We will then schedule a closing, which is the final legal step necessary to transfer the title of the house. Once closing is complete, you will get the keys to your new home and can get your movers scheduled!
